In September of 2014, artist and pupil Emma Sulkowicz started her senior thesis, Mattress Performance (Carry That Weight) (2014-15), a startling piece and ambitious work of endurance that famously concerned Sulkowicz carrying an ordinary Columbia College mattress around campus along with her always.

The Public Art Committee provides recommendations to the Arts Commission on artist selection for P.c for Art Commissions and the Percent for Artwork Funds.
